Travel Around the Lake Tanganyika area
From Kigoma it is possible to travel to two world-famous Tanzanian national parks lying along the Lake Tanganyika shoreline, Gombe Stream National Park and Mahale Mountains National Park. Both are well known for their extraordinary wildlife, especially their chimpanzee populations, and rift valley scenery. Gombe is easily reached by chartered boats from Kigoma in 2-3 hours and both day trips and overnight trips including park admissions and mandatory guide fees to see chimpanzees and experience an extraordinary coastal ecosystem are relatively easy to arrange. Mahale Mountains lies well to the south of Kigoma and travel there is more time consuming and with lodging considerably more expensive. SIAL 9 is not organizing any pre- or post-meeting travel to these destinations. However, we can recommend that you contact Mr. Mupape Mukuli, who arranges logistics for many scientific research teams at Lake Tanganyika, and who will be happy to advise you and help arrange all your travel on a fee for service basis, depending on the complexity of your travel needs and can also help with travel arrangements in other parts of Tanzania.
